reclaim! was formed in the spring of 2008 by people looking to foster anti-capitalist environmentalism in our community. We use a non-hierarchical, consensus-based structure and encourage a diversity of tactics in the struggle for a sustainable global culture and a healthy planet. We believe that a collective approach, rather than an individual one, to the problems facing our world – as well as potential solutions – is essential. It is by recognising the ways that group interactions have gotten us into the current ecological crisis in the first place and using our collective strength that we can effect real change. We strive to remain conscious in our analysis that oppressions are intersectional, in other words that those who are most affected by ecological destruction are also those who bear the brunt of systems such as patriarchy, capitalism, and white supremacy.
